Dandruff problem can be a nightmare especially when we have to wear black or dark clothes. In severe cases of dandruff problem, the itching causes one to scratch the scalp which in turn leads to hair fall. However, this problem rarely leads to baldness. Dandruff is generally more of an aesthetic problem as opposed to a medical one. Contrary to popular myth, most dandruff problems are not contagious.

Most people deal with dandruff problem by using anti-dandruff medicated shampoo or over-the-counter ointments and lotions. However, they are sometimes not only ineffective but also exacerbate the problem due to the allergic reaction to the chemical ingredients in the products. In addition, some of these products are expensive because they require marketing and advertising cost to sell.

In this article, I am going to share some of the natural ways to prevent and control dandruff problem.

Causes of dandruff problem

Before we go into the details on how to deal with dandruff problem let’s examine some of the factors that lead to the problem itself. This information will help us determine the right approach to deal with the problem.

There are a number of different factors that cause dandruff problem. The production of skin oil, perspiration, dirty environment, excessive flaking of scalp, and hormonal changes are some of the most common ones. Dandruff is also possibly caused by other serious problems such as dermatitis, psoriasis, fungal or even head lice infection.

The natural methods of dandruff prevention and cure that I am going to share in this article are probably effective only for common dandruff problems. Chronic dandruff problems caused by fungal or lice infections and other diseases such as lice or psoriasis are probably best treated by doctors.

Natural prevention and treatment of dandruff problem

Prevention is better than cure. One of the best ways to deal with any problem is to prevent the problem from happening in the first place. This rule applies to dandruff problem too. Here are some natural ways to prevent dandruff problems.

1. Wash your hair frequently. Washing your hair frequently removes the flakes and also the oil on your hair and scalp. Use a regular inexpensive shampoo as opposed to the expensive medicated one. Contrary to popular belief, washing your hair frequently is not going to cause dryness in your scalp that causes dandruff. However, the frequency of washing needed to wash your hair varies from person to person. Some people only require weekly washing. Others with more oily skin probably need twice or three times a week. Some even require daily washing.

2. Brush your hair frequently. Brushing your hair also removes any debris from your hair which in turn reduces the dandruff problem. In addition, brushing also improves circulation. Brushing will expose more of your scalp to the air and sunlight which helps it ‘breathe’ so to speak.

3. Avoid or at least reduce the use of hair products such as styling oil, hair sprays, mousse, hair gel, etc. These products can cause the buildup of flakes on your scalp.

4. Massage your scalp while washing your hair. Massaging your scalp improves circulation. Many people don’t realize that it is not only your hair that needs shampooing but your scalp too.

5. Eat a balanced diet that contains all the necessary nutrition that your body needs. Avoid junk food, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs and other etc. Reduce the consumption of meat products and eat more fresh vegetables and fruits.

6. Avoid stress. Stress can cause imbalances in hormonal system which can trigger dandruff problems.

7. Exercise regularly. Exercise can make you healthier. Choose outdoor types of exercise that can expose more of your scalp to sunlight and air.

Lastly, there are natural products that are known to be quite effective in treating dandruff problem. Here are two of them.

1. Tea tree oil. Use tea tree oil as a mixture in your shampoo. Add a few drops in your shampoo before washing your hair..

2. Lime. Lime juice is also known to be able to control dandruff problem. It controls the oil buildup and gives a fresh sensation in your scalp as well. Apply some slices of lime or the juice of lime itself to your scalp especially in problem areas. Leave it for about 15 minutes and then rinse and wash your hair with shampoo as usual.

Cleanness in Excess Can Cause Allergy

Specialists start to face it as an epidemic. Only in the United States, each year 5 000 people die suffocated during asthma crises, and 90 million Americans deal daily with the discomfort of rhinitis and dermatitis, the more common allergic varieties. Finding the cure or the causes for this became, thus, a challenge that involves more than interests of public health.

An allergic person that takes remedy against his type of allergy will be able to prevent the misfortunes of the reactions of his immunological system to an allergenic (examples of allergenics: dust, milk, peanut, insects, pets hair, etc.). However, the organism will continue producing defensive substances that can create an allergic reaction later on, by getting stronger than the medicine or generating unknown effects to the person who takes it. This is extremely related to the causes of the allergies, another shady area recently illuminated by new researches.

During a lot of time, allergies were thought as hereditary, given that evidences show that the probability of children who have allergic parents to develop the illness is of 70%. However, the advance of the allergic processes in the rhythm of the technological development and the improvement of the life conditions made the scientists consider other hypotheses. The underprivileged populations of the East of Russia, India, Indonesia and Africa register 50% less incidence of cases of allergies than rich countries – over all when compared to the inhabitants of the great European and American metropolises, where there is more asepsis and medical care. This leads to a hypothetical explanation to the causes of the allergies, the so called “hygienical hypothesis”. When observing children who live in farms of Germany and Austria, where they drink raw milk and have contact with the land and fertilizers, it was proved that the incidence of allergic complications among them is 75% less than in the boys who live in the cities. Another research, involving 480 cadets of the Italian Air Force disclosed that the respiratory allergies are less frequent between military that in their childhood had been exposed to microbes transmitted through dirty water and meals cooked with this water. Its unusual, but dealing with these facts, scientists are tempted to conclude that the suppression of illnesses as measles, mumps and even diseases caused mostly in children by viruses and worms, – all practically eradicated in the developed countries – can also have its harmful side, since this makes the immunologic system idle.

The acceptance of the “hygienical hypothesis” is growing in the medical community and this can lead to adjustments in the way parents raise their children. Even children who have flues with more frequency in the first years of their life seem to tend less to develop allergies.

Super protective parents that do not allow the children to walk bare-footed, have contact with animals or that only bathe their babies in mineral or boiled water would be, therefore, producing negative and contrary consequences to their children.

This thesis is based on the hypothesis that the exposure to the microbes in infancy strengthens the lymphocytes – white cells of the blood that act in the defence against parasites, embryos, etc.

Obviously, this doesnt mean that you must give in when your son refuses to take a bath. But it is probable that the human body is not changing so quickly as the civilization. For millenniums we have coexisted with viruses and bacteria, and suddenly we become highly aseptic. Also, our alimentary habits had never been modified so radically, nor had we as much access to chemical remedies and other products as we have now. Probably, in the future, people will try to treat allergies with a healthy diet and less drug prescriptions.

Allergic Contact Dermatitis- It Can Cause Lot of Problems

In the first part of this article we found out about what is Allergic Contact Dermatitis and how it is caused. Let us find out more.

The Clinical Look:

The allergy may not be only confined to the place of contact. If you handle a material with your hands and then touch your eyelids, your eyelids will also develop allergic reaction. Unless the dermatitis is severe, it is confined to the area of contact. The skin may become red, itchy and blistered. With repeated allergic reactions, skin deteriorates further and becomes thick and cracked.

Common Allergens:

Common allergens include nickel, poison ivy, some makeup preparations, latex, hair dye, antibiotics such as neomycin, etc. You may find out if you are allergic to any substance with a patch test. By applying the suspected allergen to a small spot for few days and watching the reaction of the skin will indicate the allergy causing potential of that material. Your doctor will guide you more about how to conduct this test. Some examples are – a jewelery piece containing nickel, nickel straps, latex gloves, reaction to permanent hair dye, reaction to topical antibiotic such as neomycin, etc. If the allergy arises, after the skin that had come in contact with the allergen is exposed to sunlight, it is called photo allergy. In this case, the other contact sites will not develop allergy, but only those parts that get exposed to sunlight.

Treatment:

The first need is to avoid contact with allergens. In case of dermatitis developing, it may be treated with topical antibiotics, steroids, or immuno-modulators. Systematic medicines such as antihistamines, steroids, antibiotics, may be used depending upon the severity of the reaction. Your doctor is the best person to prescribe treatment.

default Allergic Contact Dermatitis It Can Cause Lot Of Problems

By: Leslie Nguyen This is my public service announcement for my Health Science Technology class. I have eczema myself, but it’s not as severe as the pictures seen in the video. I do use the corticosteroids every now and then, and it does reduce the scaley, dry, reddened skin very well. I have had eczema ever since I was a child and still have it til’ this day [ I will probably have it for the rest of my life] and that means that I have Chronic dermatitis or eczema. Doing this project has really taught me quite a bit about this “skin rash” I have had for years.

klkenzig asked:

Recently my skin has been very itchy but no rash, and I cant seem to find a solution. I have tried putting lotion on it regularly and it doesnt help. I haven’t changed anything like body wash or laundrey detergent so it’s not an allergic reaction. The only thing that I have been doing differently is working out more. It also seems to get worse at night and when I get hot. Any ideas as to what might be causing this or how to treat it?
