Eczema Symptoms And Treatments:

Eczema (Also known as Dermatitis) has 2 major types. One is Atopic Dermatitis and the second one is Contact Dermatitis.

Atopic Eczema is thought to be a hereditary condition. It is proposed people with atopic dermatitis are sensitive to allergens in the enviroment, which are harmless to other people. This type of eczema is especially common in infants and children.

The key to lessening this type of eczema is to strengthen your immune system. When it is hereditary there isn’t much you can do to avoid it, all you can do is try to keep it under control.

Contact Eczema – This occurs when chemical substances come in contact with the skin. By

learning which substances cause the irritation, this type of eczema can be

controlled.

Common causes For Eczema

Internal Factors:

Hereditary – A family history of eczema, asthma or hayfever. If both parents have

eczema there is an 80% chance their children will have it as well.

Food – Some of the most common foods that aggravate the eczema are dairy, wheat products,

acedic fruit, eggs, nuts seafood, preservatives and coloring.

Stress – Emotional stress is a well known trigger of eczema flare-ups. Reducing stress

can significantly help the problem.

External Factors:

Irritants – Tobacco smoke, bleach weather, scratchy clothes (like wool) and air

conditioning or over heating can irritate the skin.

Allergens – These include dust mites, feathers, mold, grasses, pets, soaps, shampoo as

well as certain cosmetics. Ingredients such as alcohol and fragrances may

trigger or worsen eczema.

Atopic Eczema is the most common, it affects 10-20% of school age children and 3-5% of adults.

Symptoms:

The severity of this disease can vary. In mild cases the skin is dry, hot and itchy. In more severe cases, the skin can become broken, raw and bleeding. It can affect any part of the body.

Eczema symptoms start with severe itching, soon after that a rash appears and it starts out as flaky dry skin on top of reddened, inflammed skin. The rash is usually burning and itchy. Some people develop red bumps, while others develop bumps filled with clear fluid. Scratching them will make it worse. The skin can harden and crack, causing it to be very painful.

Psoriasis – Is There a Cause and a Cure? Part 1.

2850042532 7a80ef005e Psoriasis Is There A Cause And A Cure? Part 1.

Historically, sufferers from skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis have been looked at with disgust and ostracized from society. In fact, the term leper was applied to people with all kinds of unsightly skin conditions, not only leprosy.

This revulsion towards skin disease is still prevalent today, and psoriasis is a very stressful and miserable condition to have, especially with the young, for obvious reasons: it affects all parts of the body, including scalp, face, hands, nails and even the genital areas. It is unpleasant to look at and unpleasant to have.

Like many conditions, only a sufferer can understand the way it affects aspects of life others take for granted; activities such as having a good time at a swimming pool, sunbathing on the beach, wearing a t-shirt, shorts or even changing clothes in front of people, and for youngsters and teenagers, trying to find a boyfriend or girl friend. None of these things, which are part of every day life, are easy for psoriasis suffers, andin some cases not even possible. It is sometimes embarrassing even going for a hair cut! Only we know the feelings, doubts and anxieties when people stare at us or make comments.

WHAT IS THE CAUSE?

Quite frankly, in my opinion, no one knows what causes psoriasis. I have heard it said that it is inherited. I have suffered from psoriasis for 30 years but no one else in my family has it, going back to my great grandparents on both sides of the family. One thing is certain – it is not infectious. Psoriasis cannot be passed from one person to another.

I have read about many factors which trigger psoriasis:

- stress
- alcohol
- smoking
- diet
- contact with certain chemicals
- cold
- mechanical stress to elbows, knees
- exposure to some steroids and other medications

and so many other activities to avoid in addition to the above, such as swimming. Can swimming really trigger psoriasis? I wouldn’t know, its been such a long time since I enjoyed that activity.

It has been said that psoriasis has a connection with arthritis. This I believe since some of my family have arthritis and I have it in both knees. Perhaps this could eventually be clue as to the cause. However, psoriasis is not as glamorous as most conditions which are given research funding.

The cause of psoriasis is thought to be connected to the autoimmune system and a certain type of white blood cell called T-cells which stimulate the reproduction of skin cells. The result is that skin cells grow much faster than normal – this basically is what psoriasis is: skin cells reproducing much faster than they usually do, so it a completely natural process, just that it is happening too fast. Why this happens is unknown, and the reason why one patch of skin is affected with psoriasis while the skin beside it is clear, is also unknown.

However, research is being carried out on the human genome of people affected with psoriasis to try determine any genetic cause of the disease. So far it is thought that a number of factors are involved which combine to form the condition when acted on by a trigger such as one or more of those above.

There are many claims on the internet from people who profess to have discovered the cause of psoriasis, and hence a psoriasis cure, but I do not believe them. Anyone with a cure for psoriasis would not be selling it for a few bucks on the internet. They would very rapidly become multi millionaires!

Psoriasis causes enough mental stress and anguish in sufferers without them having to read this kind of nonsense, and be given false hope by some internet marketer who is trying to make a fast buck from someone’s concerns and worries. This type of marketing with stressful conditions such as psoriasis we can do without.

If anyone out there claims to have a cure for psoriasis, send it to me free of charge and I will try it out. If your claims are true I will tell the world for you, and you will make more money than you can count. I wonder how much response I will get to that offer? Don’t wait up.

In Part 2 I will describe the various types of psoriasis and how they applied to me. What problems they gave me personally and what treatments I sought and used for them. The results make interesting reading and I have a few suggestions to make as to how psoriasis can be controlled.

I also found that everyone is different, and an effective treatment for one can do nothing for another. This supports the theory that the condition is due to a number of factors, and that the individuals environment can have a significant part to play.

Hand Dermatitis – About Hand Dermatitis

4349640916 7f7f7662b1 m Hand Dermatitis About Hand Dermatitis

Hand Dermatitis is basically a skin disease typical to youth, but Hand Dermatitis may occur to the people at any age. Hand dermatitis varies in severity. It may affect the backs of the hands, the palms or both sites. Often it starts as a mild intermittent complaint, but it can become increasingly severe and persistent. Bacterial infection can result in pustules, crusting and pain. Longstanding dermatitis at the ends of the fingers may result in deformed nails. Hand dermatitis can spread to affect other sites, particularly the forearms and feet.

We have provided you here all symptoms, causes and treatment methods of Hand Dermatitis.

Causes of Hand Dermatitis

Genes: A tendency to develop skin reactions or a certain type of eczema is often inherited.

Allergy: An allergic reaction occurs when the bodys immune system overreacts to something that does not cause everyones immune system to overreact. Common allergens (substances that cause an allergic reaction) that lead to hand dermatitis include nickel, Balsam of Peru (added to fragrances, foods, and skin care products), rubber, and topical vitamin E.

Irritation: With repeat use or short but heavy exposure, numerous everyday items can irritate skin. Water is probably the most common irritant. Frequent hand washing or immersing the hands in water too often can remove protective oils from the skin. When the oils are removed faster than they can be replaced, the skin becomes less pliable and more susceptible to hand eczema.

Poor glove hygiene: Wearing gloves can protect the skin from substances found in the workplace and while working around the home. However, slipping gloves on and off may allow irritants or allergens to get inside the gloves. This can trigger a flare-up. If this occurs, be sure to talk with a dermatologist about best practices for wearing gloves.

Symptoms of Hand Dermatitis include:

1) Mild, itchy rash to severe itching, swelling, and blistering

2) Irritant contact dermatitis usually affects the top of the hand, often appearing as dry, chapped skin around the knuckles and tops of the fingers

3) When hand dermatitis is caused by a fungal infection, the symptoms include itchy blisters along the sides of the fingers.

4) If caused by metals, the irritation appears under a ring

5) Allergic contact dermatitis also usually appears on the top of the hand and around the fingers.

6) The affected skin initially becomes red and dry, then progresses to itchy papules (bumps) and fluid-filled blisters (vesicles), scaling, cracking (fissures), weeping (exudation) and swelling (oedema).

Treatment of Hand Dermatitis

Methods for Treating Hand Dermatitis are:

Where possible, avoid wet-work and contact with irritants.

Protect your hands using vinyl gloves, which are less likely than rubber to cause allergic reactions. Don’t wear these for long periods, as sweating will also aggravate dermatitis. Always make sure the gloves are scrupulously clean inside.

Use emollients frequently. A thin smear of a thick barrier cream should be applied to all affected areas before work, and reapplied after washing and whenever the skin dries out.

Your doctor will prescribe topical steroids to reduce inflammation. These come in various strengths and should only be applied to areas of active dermatitis once or twice daily. Generally a potent topical steroid is used for several weeks.

If your dermatitis is infected, your doctor will prescribe a topical or oral antibiotic such as flucloxacillin for about a week.

Guide to Surviving Sunburn – Part 2

2148771276 8668544144 t Guide to surviving sunburn Part 2

Over-exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays causes sunburn. Your skin turns red, you want to kill whoever touches it, and it ends up itching like crazy before you start to peel.

HOW TO AVOID SUNBURN Sunburn can be avoided if you keep a few things in mind. First of all, avoid the sun from 10a.m. to 4p.m. when the sun is the hottest. (Hint: Look for long shadows for better times to be in the sun). Babies and young children are the easiest to burn since their skin is more sensitive. Fair skinned people are also more susceptible to burning than darker skinned people. Never, ever go out in the sun without first having applied a high SPF waterproof sunscreen on your body and lip balm on your lips. Remember to re-apply frequently especially if you go in the water. Also remember to wear a hat and long-sleeved shirts whenever possible as well as a good pair of sunglasses.

SUNBURN REMEDIES/TREATMENTS/RELIEF Common at-home sunburn remedies can be as simple as taking a cool shower, placing wet towels on the skin or treating your sunburn by generously applying aloe-based creams, lotions or gels on the sunburn. Taking medications such as Advil or Tylenol also helps provide sunburn relief and helps pain and irritation subside. Also remember to drink plenty of fluids to keep your body hydrated.

CARE FOR BABY SUNBURN If your baby gets sunburn, you may want to take him to the doctor if he is less than one years old since he is not able to tell you how he feels. Your doctor will be able to tell you the severity of the burn as well if it’s okay to give your baby medication to help relieve pain. Once at home, give your baby cool baths as well as apply cool towels on his skin. Remember not to rub his skin when drying him off; pat dry instead. Dress him in loose clothing or let him go undressed if possible. Apply moisturizing lotion that is water-based to relieve itching or help the peeling of skin. Do not under any circumstances take your baby out in the sun until his skin has healed.

SEVERE SUNBURN SYMPTOMS Routine home treatments for sunburn are not good enough if you are experiencing severe sunburn symptoms. These include feeling dizzy, feeling extremely thirsty, not having the urge to urinate for prolonged periods, having a very fast pulse, or breathing harder and/or faster than usual. Severe sunburns cause blistering of the skin. Also, start worrying if you feel like throwing up, have sudden chills or develop a rash.

TREATING SEVERE SUNBURNS

If you are suffering from severe sunburn, you are probably also suffering from dehydration. A doctor may have to treat you by hooking you up to an IV with saline solution to hydrate your body.
