Dermatitis (eczema) is inflammation of the upper layers of the skin, causing itching, blisters, redness, swelling, and often exude, scabbing, and scaling. Dermatitis affects about one in every five people at some time in their lives. It results from a variety of different causes and has various patterns. There are different types of dermatitis, including seborrheic dermatitis and atopic dermatitis (eczema). Gravitational dermatitis arises on the lower legs of the elderly, due to swelling and poorly functioning leg veins. Nummular dermatitis may be set off primary by an injury to the skin: scattered coin-shaped irritable patches persist for a few months. Though the disorder can have many causes and occur in many forms, it usually involves swollen, reddened and itchy skin.

Dermatitis can be acute or chronic or both. Acute eczema (or dermatitis) refers to a rapidly progress red rash which may be blistered and swollen. Chronic eczema (or dermatitis) refers to a longstanding bad-tempered area. It is often darker than the surrounding skin, thickened (lichenified) and much scratched. Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common skin diseases, affecting between 9% and 30% of children or teenagers in the United States. Almost 66% of people with the disorder develop it before age 1, and 90% by age 5. Irritant contact dermatitis occurs when chemicals or physical agents damage the surface of the skin faster than the skin is able to repair the damage. Seborrheic dermatitis is a skin disorder affecting the scalp, face and trunk causing scaly, flaky, itchy, red skin.

It particularly affects the sebum-gland rich areas of skin. It may occur during times of physical stress, travel or in people who have neurological conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease. In infants, this disorder is known as cradle cap. Treatment of dermatitis varies, depending on the cause. Chronic treatment with topical corticosteroids may lead to permanent skin changes, such as atrophy and telangiectasia. Pimecrolimus is a new anti-inflammatory cream shown to be very effective for atopic dermatitis, with fewer side effects than topical steroids. Apply an emollient liberally and often, particularly after bathing, and when itchy.Wear soft smooth cool clothes; wool is best avoided. Antihistamine tablets may help reduce the irritation, and are particularly useful at night.

Eczema Treatment From the Inside Out With Wheatgrass

4867307978 57a23d8841 m Eczema Treatment From The Inside Out With Wheatgrass

Just about every health food store displays trays of wheatgrass, one of the latest superfoods gaining in popularity. Rich in many vital nutrients, wheatgrass is purported to cure a number of conditions, including eczema. While you cant apply it directly to the skin, a good shielding lotion is the best external eczema treatment, there is a good chance that eating wheatgrass or drinking the juice will reduce eczema flares. Heres why.

Wheatgrass has an extremely high nutrient content. Similar in structure to hemoglobin, it is said to contain every vitamin and mineral needed by the human body. Researchers estimate one pound of wheatgrass to contain the nutrients available in 25 pounds of high quality vegetables. It is a complete food that can be eaten or taken in its liquid form, found on the shelves as liquid chlorophyll.

In addition to being promoted as effective eczema treatment, anecdotal evidence has found wheatgrass to benefit the digestive and cardiovascular systems, cleanse the liver and detoxify heavy metals, prevent hair loss, constipation and even cancer.

How do you take wheatgrass? While chewing it is possible, the juice is far more convenient and palatable although it doesnt taste great. Mixing with a little apple juice will help. If youre liquefying it yourself, its best to use a manual press or very low revolution, and, therefore, low heat, food processor is best. A regular blender or juicer will destroy the nutrients. It can be quite a shock to the system at first, so start off slow – 1 tablespoons on the first day, gradually working up to about a pint. If you get diarrhea or stomach problems, stop taking it until the symptoms subside then start again with a lower dose.

When using wheatgrass as eczema treatment, you can expect to see results in about three weeks.

What wheatgrass will not solve is the problem of eczema caused by contact with harsh chemicals which accounts for the vast majority of eczema cases. The best solution for that is a shielding lotion. Now recommended by thousands of doctors for eczema treatment, a good shielding lotion bonds with the outer layer of the skin to form a protective barrier that locks in moisture and keeps out harsh chemicals that damage the skin. Between the wheatgrass and the shielding lotion, you should have your eczema licked in no time!

Home Remedies for Sun Burns – Treat Sunburn at Home

516084492 a1caad9a7e Home Remedies for Sun Burns Treat Sunburn at Home

Sunburn is a burn to the skin produced by overexposure to the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun.

The symptoms of sunburn are: Red skin that is painful and hot to touch, mild dizziness and tiredness. The skin damage is often permanent and can have serious long-term health effects, including skin cancer.

Boil lettuce leaves for ten minutes, strain off and chill the water (cool, not cold) and apply it to burned skin. Some dermatologists also recommend this.

ALOE VERA is a natural and soothing treatment option for sunburn and tan. Just pluck a few leaves of the plant, mash them and mix with lemon juice. Apply all over the affected areas. It cleanses, clears and nourishes the skin.

Mix 2 teaspoon tomato juice and 4 tablespoon buttermilk and apply on the face. Leave for 1/2 hour, and wash off.

To create a green tea for sunburn compress, make an infusion by pouring boiling water over loose-leaf Green Sencha tea leaves and allow the mixture to sit for 15-20 minutes. Once that the infusion has cooled, strain the leaves and retain the liquid. Soak a clean cloth in the liquid, and then place on the sunburned area for 5-10 minutes. This may be done several times a day.

Prepare a Sunburn Soother by mixing 1 cup white wine vinegar, 5 tablespoons salt, 5 tablespoons plain yogurt and 2 tablespoons aloe gel. Combine all the ingredients and stir briskly until smooth and creamy. Store in a refrigerator. Shake well before use. Apply it on the affected areas every hour or so, until the burning sensation is gone.

Mix glam flour in curd and apply on face. Wash off after 30 minutes. Do it daily till your sunburn is gone.

Another home remedy for sunburn is to add water to powdered slippery elm to make a paste-like substance, and then to apply the paste on the sunburned areas. Slippery elm acts as healing agent, and also draws out toxins from the wounds.

Mix together 150ml (1 pint) of plain yoghurt and 2 tablespoons of rosewater (elderflower water can be substituted for the rose water.) Apply where it hurts to soothe and cool. The application of this delicious mixture can be made into a terrific game to turn a cantankerous child’s thoughts from misery to laughter. Rose water and glycerin, 4 tablespoons of each, is one of the best moisturizers for children’s skin but it is not as healing as yoghurt. This will completely remove sunburn.

Comfrey root is an herb that helps to soothe burns. Place one tablespoon of comfrey in one cup of water and bring it to a boil. After it simmers a few minutes, let it cool. Saturate a cloth with the strained liquid and apply to the burned area.

Mix one egg white with one tsp honey and hazel. Apply this on the bruised area and leave it for 5-10 minutes. Later wash it with luke warm water.

For treating a sunburn which is relatively mild, add ten drops of chamomile oil and ten drops of lavender oil to a cool bath and soak yourself in it for half an hour or more. This will moisten your skin and lessen the skin discomfort.
